A Window to Your Soul - Stefan Drechsel's Mesmerising Music Video for his Debut Single The Blue Yonder
A Window to Your Soul - Stefan Drechsel's Mesmerising Music Video for his Debut Single The Blue Yonder
(PRWEB UK) 22 June 2012
The video for The Blue Yonder takes the viewer on an imaginary journey to places otherworldly, yet these places seem to always be present. "I wanted the video to appear like a fading memory of a vivid dream. You don't know what it means but you understand every bit of it," says Stefan Drechsel. ?That?s why there are neither characters nor me to see in the video, these would disturb the chain of free association within the viewer."
The images support the song's uplifting harmony of voice and acoustic guitar. One by one instruments appear; first an atmospheric electric guitar, followed by a mystical piano, both beautifully arranged and mixed. Stefan's lyrics glide gently through these melodic passages before they reach the heart-soaring crescendo of the chorus. Here all voices and instruments are loud and full of energy while Stefan sings, "time flies by surprise ". The tension lifts to an intensive peak before it slides down into the lucid interval of stillness.
Stefan Drechsel masterfully arranges music around space and quiet moments. This is one of the reasons why his music has been described as an unusual blend of Leonard Cohen, John Martyn and Coldplay.
At the heart of the video are close-up photo shoots of a beautifully crafted glass flower. The eyes wander over every detail, colour and reflection in full admiration, while Stefan sings about moments of bliss, "living with the unknown fire, that makes you whole and entire." The glass artist Klaus-Leo Drechsel created the art piece and it will become the cover of Stefan's up-coming album "Here and Now".
The atmosphere and intention of The Blue Yonder is uplifting. Stefan says, "for me the song is about staying connected to an inner sense of peace. In our modern world many people don't feel this connection anymore. People live their lives in haste, blind to the beautiful things all around."
Stefan shot the entire video with his pocket camera in London. "I am fascinated by the moments of magic that can appear before your eyes in a split second. When shooting the video and photos for The Blue Yonder I hoped to capture these flashes as they happened, which I could only achieve using my intuition, not my rational mind. The blue street lamps at the closing scene are in Elephant and Castle. These appear to be there for no other reason than to amplify that the blue yonder is here, and not beyond."
Stefan Drechsel is a singer songwriter based in London and is releasing his debut album Here and Now in July 2012. The promotion tour is planned for September in the UK and November/December across European countries. Dates to be announced.
Stefan was born in Germany and lives in London and has been creating music as a solo artist and collaboratively since the early nineties.
