A Grandfather Compiles a Treasure House of Literary Gems

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (PRWEB) August 02, 2012

?The child who grows up unaware of literature of the past is surely impoverished,? writes Dr. Robert Bauman in the preface of Poems for our Grandchildren, a compilation of literature?s most loved and cherished works originally intended for the family?s younger generations.

In a society swamped with mainstream media and pop culture, the collection is a fitting alternative to inculcate the love for the written word and lyrical prose to youngsters. From Jane Taylor?s classical ?Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star? to the highly-acclaimed ?Father William? of Lewis Carroll, Poems for our Grandchildren is a treasure house full of literary gems and masterpieces that are suitable for the young and even the young at heart.

?Since the collection was first assembled, our own grandchildren have become the readers, rather than the read-to. Yet, to our knowledge, no substantial body of new poetry has come along to take the place of these traditional works that range from light fancy to the joys and perils of growing up and the heroism of those who came before us. Thus these out-of-date poems may be even more important to the children of the 21st century than to those for whom they were originally compiled.?

As a small yet valuable compilation that ranges from nursery rhymes to somber works on the struggles and valor of the country?s forbearers, Bauman hopes that the literary gems contained in Poems for our Grandchildren may bring mirth, joy, and an appreciation of the country?s heritage that will be handed from one generation to another.

This book will be featured at the 2012 Frankfurt Book Fair in Frankfurt, Germany, on October 10-14, 2012.
