Singer-Songwriter Sonnet Follows Up Overstock.com Campaign, With The Release Of Her Debut EP
Hollywood, CA (PRWEB) September 17, 2012
On September 25th, just weeks after the release of a series of three national commercials for Overstock.com, which feature her singing ?O is the One? for the brand?s new campaign, Sonnet Simmons will release her self-titled debut EP on her label, Kiss Me Records.
With her forthcoming EP, Sonnet examines male and female dynamics, juxtaposed with lessons she?s learned about life, love, and relationships. The ascending singer-songwriter delivers a fresh perspective of pop that blends Gwen Stefani?s electro pop beats, with Fiona Apple?s poetic prowess and Sara Bareilles? piano styling
Sonnet (a name derived from the Italian word, ?sonetto?, which means ?little song? or ?little sound?), first acquired commercial success when her buoyant song, ?You?re So Good for Me? was featured in a 2009 Coca Cola/Lagoon Park campaign. Following the commercial, the song hit the Top 100 downloads list at Amazon, appeared on iTunes, and garnered over 40K downloads in its initial month. On August 21st of 2012, Overstock.com debuted the first in a series of three commercials featuring Sonnet singing the first ever Overstock.com song, ?O is the One?.
On ?Sonnet? she continues to demonstrate her musical aptitude, despite being slightly hearing impaired in her left ear, with an EP that showcases pulsating electro beats, sparkling choruses and unifying themes. The eight-song EP marks the culmination of an intense period of personal and professional growth; a time when she made a conscious choice to fight for her career and solidify her signature sound.
Originally the EP title was Boys & Girls, echoing the fundamental relationship rapport. ?Many of my girlfriends would like to think that boys think the same as girls do. However, I find, guys are much more straight-forward. They don?t over think things in the same mystifying ways girls do. Girls are complex ? but men love us regardless,? Sonnet says with a smile.
The first track ?Boys? is an effervescent track with a groovy reggae texture. Percolating synths and cautious rhythmic optimism propel ?I?ll Be the One You Want?. A mid-tempo change up, ?Long Road,? glistens with subtle bells and soothing harmonies, while ?Last Dance,? is a parting of ways anthem and invitation to ?Kiss me like you mean it/Like you?ll never ever see me again? amplified with billowing electronica and persistent tambourine.
?Girls?, the fifth track on the album, is dominated by sassy synths and demanding drums, while ?What If? is an eloquent ballad which showcases Sonnet?s range and vulnerability, along with her piano styling. ?The first five tracks are meant to be fun, while presenting an identifiable theme, but ?What If? and ?Half Your Heart? are intended to expose raw emotion and provoke thought,? says Sonnet.
?If you can offer music that is easily digestible, but has meaning and depth, with lyrics that speak to your soul, then you win. You get to sing along and are left with something to think about,? she says. And with her debut, Sonnet is a conduit, using her personal narrative and the power of possibility to inspire an honest, enthralling prologue of enchanting artistry.
