Deering Banjo Artist Jens Kruger Premiere?s Composition at Banff Center
Spring Valley, CA (PRWEB) July 18, 2012
?The Spirit of the Rockies," composed by Deering Banjo Company endorsing artist Jens Kruger, will be the closing performance at the prestigious Banff 2012 Summer Arts Festival in Canada. Jens was able to bring his personal experience of growing up in Switzerland into the composing of this piece; a song of poetic lyrics and beautiful harmonies which tells the story of how the Swiss Guides heightened the awareness of the beauty of the Canadian Rockies to the local inhabitants.
His original compostions have so enriched the musical community to such a degree that in 2011 Jens was inducted into the Blue Ridge Music Hall of Fame. Jens has described the banjo as an instrument that ?represents the ideals of America, the dream of freedom, the promise of a better life, and the happiness that goes with a job well done.? ?Music from the Spring? performed with the Bangor Maine Symphony in 2005 was followed in 2011 by his classical composition ?The Appalachian Concerto? in which he paints an intense and thrilling musical canvas of his journey from Europe to the hills of North Carolina.
It was this composition that brought him to the attention of the Banff Centre for the Arts. He responded by creating a piece that he feels ?unites the social and ecological concepts he finds in the Canadian Rockies. He titled the piece ?The Spirit of the Rockies.? ?For the English settlers?, says Jens of the history of the Canadian Rockies, the wilderness was something to be conquered.? That changed in the early 1900s when Swiss Guides mapped out hiking trails, ski trails, and mountain retreats. ?They (also) brought in awareness of beauty,? says Jens. ?Just like we need a friend or a parent to says ?look at this view?, we often need someone to help us recognize beauty.? ?The spirit of the Rockies,? he says in reference to the mountains themselves, ?is one of appreciation, an understanding that we are part of this world, and it is part of us.?
Certainly those who are fortunate to be among the audience at Banff Centre for the Arts on August 25th, will witness the joy and mastery of all that Jens Kruger brings to the world of music.
A long time Deering banjo endorsee, Jens Kruger was honored by Berklee College of Music in Boston with a degree in music after hearing his impressive 15 CD collection of recordings. Berklee submitted a recommendation for immigration, along with a strong support from the Deering Banjo Company. Their combined efforts made it possible in 2003 for the genius of Jens Kruger and his brother Uwe to make America their home, making Jens the first artist in 25 years to be granted immigration to America for his contribution to the world of art. Because of his unique style of music, Jens Kruger and the Kruger Brothers Band have helped usher the banjo into the renaissance of interest that we see today. Defying all efforts to categorize them, the Kruger Brothers music, written by Jens and his brother Uwe, transcends all boundaries to become a genre of their own.
