The Helen Doron methodology was developed and pioneered by the linguist and educator and launched in 1985. The unique methodology allows children as young as three months to learn English just like they learn their mother tongue, through repeated hearing and positive reinforcement. Helen Doron's inspiration for the methodology came when her 4-year old daughter learnt to play the violin with the Suzuki Method. Dr Sinichi Suzuki called his method "the mother-tongue approach" to learning music, as he taught the children to play the violin by listening to music before reading notation.

As Dr Suzuki talked of teaching 'the language of music', Helen realized that this is what had been missing in the teaching of language to children worldwide. Without a doubt, they needed to learn 'the music of language'. Just as babies and infants learn their mother tongue by hearing words, sentences, songs and stories over and over again, and receiving positive feedback from their caretakers, so children can learn a foreign language using this same natural technique. In addition, the teachings of Glenn Doman and his Institutes for the Achievement of Human Potential were an important influence on the Helen Doron methodology, as his research highlights children's incredible potential and pinpointed ways to achieve it.

Today, the Helen Doron English system offers a large number of courses in English for children from only 3 months up to 18 years. To date, more than 1 million children have learned English through this method. The Helen Doron method is communicated through play, games, stories, workbooks, flashcards, story cards, original songs and music, in order to reinforce spoken English, pronunciation, grammar, vocabulary, as well as reading and writing for older children.
